Summary of Duties

The Construction Foreman/Superintendent will be involved in administrative, supervisory, and operational responsibilities to ensure the productivity of daily operations. The Construction Foreman/Superintendent reports to the Director of Operations and will supervise and manage construction projects for Federal Forestry Contracts, Utility Sector projects, and State/Federal Civil projects. The position will work closely with the management team to determine hiring needs, deadlines for specific tasks, and safety protocols to enforce among workers. This position is considered a working Construction Foreman/Superintendent and is expected to direct and assist employees in their daily tasks and activities.

Experience and proficiency in the following major areas:

  • Thorough knowledge of civil, grading, drilling construction projects
  • Experienced in interpreting construction methods and technologies 
  • Experience in preparation of project schedules 
  • Knowledgeable of safe construction work practices 
  • Experienced in construction standards and quality control
  • Proficient and effective management and leadership skills 
  • Proficient PC skills – Work/Excel
  • Excellent communication skills 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage construction projects in accordance with the approved plans
  • Plan, implement, and manage construction tasks in accordance with priorities and goals 
  • Prepare weekly job plan and keep a record of job progress
  • Prepare, monitor, and maintain the project construction schedule and prepare 3-week look-ahead schedules on a weekly basis
  • Review the project plans and specifications and inform superiors of any errors, omissions, or discrepancies 
  • Maintain field site and keep daily job log
  • Maintain control and responsibility for the security and operation of all equipment including hour logs, equipment survey, and care 
  • Maintain a safe job site and ensure that the requirements of the company safety plans and compliance with OSHA are upheld and enforced. 
  • Supervise crew of craft workers including laborers, and equipment operators
  • Produce employee schedules and monitor employee attendance and work
  • Research and suggests new policies and or procedures to improve work productivity
  • Contact, schedule, and coordinate all subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
  • Review and manage the project budget to ensure that the project is staying on or under budget 
  • Keep accurate records and create daily, weekly, or monthly reports as needed
  • Supervise, train, and give feedback to workers
  • Maintain state-issued
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker endorsement and DOT FMCSA Medical Examiner’s Certificate 
  • Safely and conscientiously utilize and operate all fleet trucks, vehicles, and equipment, observing all law and industry standards of operation and use 
  • Must be self-motivated, disciplined, dependable, and resourceful, with a can-do attitude 
  • Above all, be safe and conscientious of customers, our work, and each other
  • Make safety a priority at all times

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Due to the nature of small business operations, it may occasionally be necessary to fulfill task requirements of varied nature.

Qualifications/ Licenses

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory role and experience in earthwork, heavy civil, grading, drilling, utilities, and demolition construction projects.
  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of construction terms, scheduling, and planning concepts
  • Excellent understanding of managing multiple crews on multiple projects at the same time
  • Familiar with all company safety and QA/QC procedures, regulations and strictly enforce them with the workforce under their responsibility
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Gnatt Charts, Smart Phones, and Tablets
  • Excellent organizational, presentational, and interpersonal skills
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to conduct activities requiring lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of burdens, up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Must pass a background check and DOT drug test
  • Valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate, must acquire within 14 days
  • Class C CDL with Tanker endorsement, must acquire within 90 days
